Kinderdijk

In this piece, I wanted to take one of the most painted scenes in the world—the iconic windmills of Kinderdijk—and reimagine it through a lens of modern energy and personal heritage. To me, these windmills are more than just landmarks; they are symbols of the Dutch "can-do" mindset, standing as a testament to centuries of human ingenuity in the tireless fight against the water.

While the windmills represent a permanent, sturdy presence, the sailboat in the foreground tells a different story. It represents the transient nature of our lives. Millions of us visit these historic sites every year, passing through as temporary guests, while the windmills remain, constant and watchful.

Captured in my signature geometric style, the sky erupts in shards of orange, pink, and violet, reflecting the vibrant soul of the Netherlands. No Dutch tribute would be complete without the tulip fields, added here as a colorful foreground that grounds the piece in tradition. This painting is a celebration of where I come from and a reminder of the privilege we have to witness such enduring history.
